Cataract Referral Scheme
Our cataract referral scheme saves you the hassle of having to go back and forth to the Doctor
A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This eye condition affects a huge number of individuals and cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure carried out in the UK.
If you (or someone you know) have been diagnosed with a cataract, you will most likely require surgery at some point. At Kings Opticians we offer a cataract referral scheme to save you the hassle of having to make countless trips to your doctor, we will conduct examinations of the cataracts in our practice, as well as assess your eligibility for surgery, before making the appropriate referral to your hospital/clinic of choice.
By visiting your optician for these checks, you can rest assured you’re in great hands. Our optician has a wealth of experience dealing with cases of cataracts and will explain the surgical procedure to you, answer any questions you may have and perform any further testing should you require it.
Once you’ve had surgery you will be advised to come back and see us for your follow up appointment. We’ll closely monitor your progress and ensure your eyes are healing well and update your vision following surgery.
Glaucoma Refinement Scheme
We are part of the Birmingham Glaucoma Refinement Scheme- So let us look after you!
Glaucoma is an eye condition that can occur at any point during your life. It’s caused by an obstruction in the draining system of the eye, which causes fluid to build up. This results in higher than normal pressure in the eye which can cause irreversible optic nerve damage if left untreated.
Checking eye pressure is quick and painless and most opticians will carry out this test as part of a routine eye examination. However at Kings Opticians, if your eye pressure is cause for concern, we are able to conduct follow up appointments in practice, often saving you the hassle of having to wait for an appointment with a doctor. Thanks to our specialist equipment and expert knowledge of glaucoma, we’re able to screen for this condition and offer professional advice about how best to care for your eyes. We will refer you to see a consultant if necessary.
While two yearly eye tests are strongly recommended for everyone, some individuals are advised to visit us at least once a year if they are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma.
