Dry eyes syndrome, often presents itself in the form of dry, tired eyes. However, the condition occurs when there is a problem with the tear ducts, and the eyes are unable to sufficiently lubricate themselves.
It’s estimated that around a third of the British population suffers from a condition called ‘dry eyes syndrome’ at some point during their lifetime. This can be a very uncomfortable and disturbing condition but the majority of sufferers don’t realise it is a condition rather than something they ‘just have to live with’ and that there is treatment for it too.
This results in a number of symptoms
This results in a number of symptoms
depending on the sufferer – that can include :
Excessive watering
A gritty sensation in the eyes
Dry, sore or tired eyes
Itchiness in or around the eyes
Redness of the eyes and/or surrounding area
Sensitivity to light
A number of factors can contribute to the development of dry eye syndrome, such as air conditioning, certain medications and prolonged periods of time in front of a computer or television screen. Additionally, the condition is typically easier to treat the sooner it is diagnosed. You’re therefore strongly advised to come and speak with a member of our friendly team if you experience any of the symptoms above.
At Kings Opticians, many of our team members are qualified to assess your individual experience of dry eye syndrome. They will then offer advice about how best to deal with the condition and make recommendations for over-the-counter medication, should you need it.
